10×10 Pledge for Local Food

Just signed up, pledging that my household will shift $10 a week for 10 weeks to local food. 1000 pledgers at ONLY $10 = $100K to our local food system! You too can make your 10×10 commitment here.

We started this week by buying bulk black beans, lentils, and grapeseed oil at our local, packageless grocer, Tree Huggers. Next stop is my favorite local farmer’s market for a few off the vine tomatoes and maybe some goat cheese for my current favorite: beet, escarole, honey, and pistachio salad.

What food items are you eager to stock up on locally? Help your Michigan foodies out by letting us know where you go to find your local food favorites!

  1. I want to try your salad sug, Tarah, it’s the second time today somebody recommended roasted beats and goat cheese or feta.

It’s seriously wonderful. I cooked the pistachios in a bit of coconut oil and salt for a little extra flavor. Let me know how you like it. You could use the beet greens or a spring mix if you don’t have escarole.
